Preparation Trip

In preparation for the Road Safety Journey (to start in the spring of 2015 around WA), Dom decided to undertake a road trip from Perth, taking in the regional towns of Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Kambalda, Menzies, and Leonora in the autumn of this year.

This was a great opportunity to investigate road safety issues pertinent to regional areas, such as dealing with road trains, driving on gravel roads and in adverse weather conditions.

Photos and comments from the Road Safety Journey WA will be posted here on the website, as well as on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/roadsafetyforlife), which will highlight the hidden dangers on our roads, and offer links between regional towns' histories, communities and road safety.

By using a tool you have had since birth - called awareness - you have a source of power to supervise your mind and to assist you to drive safe. The most important thing to remember is that you must be aware of your own awareness in order to free your attention and then, in turn, be a better driver on our roads, because you will be more focused and attentive to hazards.

Some images from the preparation journey:

Above: Road trains on the Goldfields Highway, Kalgoorlie. Watch for road trains - Be prudent and take care, especially when overtaking them.

Above: Norseman. Camels and motor vehicles were used for inland travel starting back in 1894. Many things have changed with time, especially in mid 1920s when motor vehicles began operating in the inland, but in 121 years, some things never change - gold is the reason why this community is still going strong, along with tourism.
